Getting Your Guest Room Ready for Holiday Company

debbie • Dec 18, 2020

The most people will probably say that the most use their guest room gets each year is during the holidays. As soon as November starts, so does the anticipation of company through the end of the year.

While having family over can be hectic, it is also rewarding to show off the comforts of your home, as well as your five-star hospitality. You know you’ve left a lasting impression when your family asks to bunk with you during the holidays without any prompting on your part.

And while 2020 has been a whirlwind of a year, with obstacles that have made family get-togethers next to impossible, you can still host guests during the holiday season. There are plenty of guidelines in place in regards to the global pandemic that are easy to follow, and these standards can keep everyone safe during the holiday season.

At AllyMaids, we strive for cleanliness and complete sanitization. Whether you are prepping for a holiday guest during COVID-19, or if you want some tips that you can refer back to during a future time that is pandemic-free, we’ve got what you need. Follow the steps in this article to ensure that your guests stay cozy and safe this holiday season!

Getting Ready for the Holidays

First Things First: Get Cleaning!

With COVID-19 causing many businesses to adopt remote work policies, chances are your guest room is also serving as your office. You want everything to be organized for your guest, and you also want them to have room to pack away their clothes and other personal items.

Any projects, work equipment, or other materials that are currently sharing a space with your guest room need to be moved. Make sure all desks and dressers are tidy, and that there is plenty of room in the closet for your guest to use as they please.

While you probably wash and change out the sheets after each guest visit, it’s a good idea to do this beforehand as well. Freshly laundered sheets will eliminate allergens like dust or pet dander. If you know your guest has major allergies or sensitive skin, you can even go the extra mile by washing your sheets with a fragrance-free laundry detergent that is designed for sensitive skin. Many big brands carry such detergents, and even fabric softeners. Keep an eye out for these when you’re shopping for your holiday meal prep.

The final thing you should do for your guest room is a deep clean. Pull out the duster and clear off every surface. When dusting, a microfiber cloth is recommended, and you should work from the highest areas to the lowest ones. Vacuum the room, rugs, or mop the hardwood floor. If the weather is fair, open a window to let some fresh air in.

Extra Steps to Make Your Guests Feel Welcome

A clean, organized room is great for guests, but a cozy one is even better. While your guests are excited to stay at your place and reconnect, it can be a bit disorienting to be away from their own home. If you have the space/materials to do so, be sure to have these things waiting for your guest when they arrive:

  • Extra blankets and pillows
  • A bedside table
  • A notecard with the Wi-Fi password
  • An alarm clock
  • A lamp
  • A phone-charging dock
